The Stevie Chalmers Collection attracts bids from across the globe

The collection of the late Stevie Chalmers sparked off worldwide interest today at McTear’s Auctioneers in Glasgow.

Bids arrived from China, Italy, Spain and Canada for a stunning array of Stevie’s match-worn and swapped jerseys, pennants, boots, medals, programmes and iconic numbered shorts.

Some items went for huge sums, whilst other bids failed to meet the reserves on an afternoon that had collectors and aficionados flocking to the highly-esteemed auction house.

Before the Lisbon Lion’s collection went under the hammer, a number of other Celtic-related items were sold to the highest bidders:

Ronnie Simpson’s 1966/67 League Cup winners’ medal – £1,900

Billy McPhail’s 1957 League Cup winners’ medal – £1,800

‘J777 NKY’ vehicle registration plate – £2,200

1967 European Cup final programme (+ others) – £360

Fire in my Boots book by Jimmy Johnstone (+ Playing For Celtic multi-signed) – £130

Lot of Celtic programmes from 1950s – 1970s – £100

1953 Coronation Cup final programme (+ others) – £220

Next up was the collection everyone had been waiting for, and A Celtic State of Mind were active in bidding on many of the lots. We lost out on a few, but here is what we won:

LOT 1890: Stevie Chalmers’ 1960s match-worn Adidas football boots = £1,000

LOT 1900: 2 pennants – Real Madrid & Feyenoord = £140

LOT 1903: Oud Feyenoord match-worn jersey = £700

LOT 1908: KPV Kokkola 1970 match-worn jersey + 2 programmes = £750

LOT 1909: Stevie Chalmers’ #7 shorts = £600

LOT 1912: Match-worn 1970s hoops jersey = £1,500

LOT 1913: Green away jersey and shorts = £650

LOT 1915: Adidas boots from 1960s / 1970s = £550

1966 match-worn Scotland jersey versus Portugal – £1,300

1964 match-worn Scotland jersey versus Finland – £1,300

1966 match-worn Scotland jersey versus Northern Ireland – £1,500

Pelé match-worn Brazil jersey – £38,000 (highest bid – reserve not met)

Scotland v Brazil 1966 programme – £380

Scotland v England 1962 programme – £65

1960/61 Scottish Cup runners-up medal – £1,600

1969 AC Milan match-worn jersey – £3,400

1967 Penarol match-worn jersey – £2,800

1963 Basel match-worn jersey – £1,600

1968 Red Star Belgrade match-worn jersey – £1,700

Match-worn ‘Shamrock’ away jersey – £7,000

1960s match-worn hoops jersey – £4,800

Match-worn #10 shorts – £600

A Celtic State of Mind were delighted to add some of Stevie Chalmers’ items to our own collection (although we tried in vain to secure that stunning Shamrock jersey as well).
