As Brendan Rodgers hinted at in his post-match comments last weekend, it seems the end is nigh for Greg Taylor’s time at Celtic.
Today, multiple sources say a deal to take the Celtic left-back to Dinamo Zagreb is nearing a conclusion.
He’s not everyone’s favorite player, but I really hope that Celtic fans will wish him well in this next stage of his career.
Greg Taylor, Celtic’s Tireless Servant, Has Earned A Chance to Play Abroad
Having recently welcomed a new baby into the world, this is probably as good a time as any for Greg Taylor and his partner to start a new adventure overseas.
Croatia, by most accounts is a lovely country these days. Great weather, good food and a maybe some time out of the Glasgow spotlight will do this young man and his family some good.
When things haven’t quite gone according to plan in recent years, Greg Taylor is often, unfairly, the player singled out as Celtic's “weak link”.
He’s “too small”, too “error-prone”, I even heard one fan once say that he was “the worst left back I’ve seen at Celtic in years.”
This is all hyperbolae, grossly unfair and, frankly, disrespectful to Taylor.
Greg Taylor is a player with some quite obvious limitations.

However, I think his effort, his determination to improve year on year and his commitment to the Celtic cause throughout his time with us cannot be questioned.
There is no denying though that, by pretty much every measurable metric, Kieran Tierney is an upgrade.
From Taylor’s point of view, apart from the aforementioned social and familial considerations, I think a move to Croatia might be a good move for his development as well.
I have a friend in Croatia who is a Dinamo fan. I asked him about the prospect of signing Taylor and he seemed very positive on it.
Apparently, local fans and media in Croatia were quite impressed with Celtic and Taylor in particular during our hard fought 0-0 draw in Zagreb earlier this season.
My friend remains enthusiastic about the prospect of Taylor signing.
It just goes to show how different fans, different pundits and different footballing cultures can look at the same player and see very different things.
Where Celtic fans see limitation, Dinamo fans see something they can work with, within the confines of their own squad. It would seem club and player are a good fit in this regard.
In any case, Greg, thank you for all you’ve done for Celtic. If indeed this is the end of the road, then I wish you and your family all the very best in taking your next step.
Good luck. I hope we’ll welcome you back to Celtic Park someday as a fellow fan.
