Here we are again folks, Celtic beat St. Johnstone 5-0 in one of our best displays of the season, and earn the right to be the main focus of today’s sports news.

However, in their desperation to give fans of Glasgow’s youngest football club something to feel good about in these dark times, The S*n opted to throw facts out the window once again.
“Big Breakthrough” in Rangers Takeover is, of Course, Nothing of the Sort
I know the general assumption is that anyone who places any semblance of faith in a story they read in The S*n must be a bit thick.
However, even by those low, low standards, today’s slice of stenography on The Rangers Takeover, is so stupid it leaves me wondering if anyone would actually buy it.
Under the Headline “Big Breakthrough”. I’m assuming they went with “big” since single-syllable words are probably the most their readership can handle.
Anyway, The S*n claims that there has been significant progress towards a deal for Andrew Cavenagh’s consortium to takeover Rangers.
Only there isn’t. This story is no further forward now than it was in the middle of last week, when the Daily Mail, of all outlets, confirmed the takeover was in jeopardy.

Immediately, from paragraph one, the alarm bells should be ringing for anyone reading today's story with a semblance of common sense.
It says there’s be a major breakthrough (no of course no specifics on what this is or how it was achieved are given), and that the Takeover “could” be completed by the end of May.
Is this the same takeover that the papers were telling us less than a week ago was a dead cert to be done by the end of April?
Again, no explanation for this one-month time-slip is given, just the usual “trust us mate, it’s still happening.”
The main focus of the story seems to be that someone at The S*n got the calculator out.
In a magical moment of mathematical clarity, they concluded that Sandy Easdale’s shareholding, which could be as low as 4 percent or has high as 7 percent, depending on who you talk to, isn’t needed by the Americans to achieve the 51% they need to complete their takeover of Rangers.
Guys, I could have told you that weeks ago, and this is coming from someone who failed his maths higher exam!
The story moves from stating the bloody obvious to being almost insulting to its readership with this peach of a line:
“it is only the legals and regulatory approvals that are holding things up.”
So in other words, the only thing standing between this deal and completion are, erm, all the legal and regulatory hurdles that account for about 95% of any business deal. Is that right? Because please tell me if I’ve missed something.
Or is it indeed the case that The S*n really do think their readers are that naïve, that gullible and that stupid?
Don’t buy The S*n.
