I really should thank Keith Jackson and his colleagues at the Daily Record.
Debunking the utter delusional nonsense that they put out on a daily basis means I’m seldom short of things to write about.
Asking the “Experts” About Celtic and Kasper Schmeichel
Once again, I read this garbage so you don’t have to. You’re welcome.
One of my biggest criticisms of the Scottish tabloid media in general is the way they try to create news rather than just report the facts.
Take today’s headline as another classic example of make-believe masquerading as journalism.
It read: “What Kasper Schmeichel is thinking about retirement, revealed by an ally”.
Who Could This Be? A Close Friend? A Psychic?
I would wager there’s only two types of people in this world actually qualified to even guess what Kasper Schmeichel is thinking right now.
Either it’s his immediate family, whom he confides in every day, or someone who actually possesses genuine, extra-sensory perception and/or telepathy.
So, who did the Daily Record go for?
Gavin Rae. Someone who last played alongside Kasper 16 years ago.
It's the most tenuous of tenuous links
I could probably devote a whole article to contemplating why the Record might instinctively turn to a former Rangers player from almost 20 years ago to get an insight into the mindset of Celtic’s current goalkeeper.
However, I’m sure you can draw your own conclusions on that one.
To Rae’s credit, he spoke positively about Schmeichel. He said that even back in 2009, when they played a grand total of 14 games together at Cardiff City, the young goalkeeper showed all the hallmarks of a player who could play well into his 40s.
Funny how the Record chose to put “retirement” in the headline when it seems Rae was never even asked about the prospect, isn’t it?

In typical Daily Record fashion, they are too lazy to even concoct their own lies.
Instead, all of Rae’s quotes come from a separate and almost totally irrelevant interview he gave to The Sunday Post.
If I were him, I’d be giving the Record Sports desk a call. The framing of this story reflects badly on him.
I don’t believe for a second it was Gavin Rae’s intention to create any further negativity around Kasper Schmeichel and his injury.
Negativity however, as we have learned over many years, seems to be the Record’s default setting whenever they have to write anything about Celtic.
As Celtic Draw Closer to the Treble, This Will Only Get Worse
In the absence of anything good to say about the other side of the city, expect The Record to ramp up their campaign of disinformation and attention-seeking headlines.
That is all they have left. Celtic are on course to sweep the board in Scotland. In Viljami Sinisalo we have what looks like an excellent young goalkeeper ready to play his part until big Kasper returns.
And he will return, no matter how much the tabloids hope he won’t.
