IBROX HATE WAS LOUD AND CLEAR AGAIN, CELTIC FANS ASK: WILL UEFA ACT?

Scotland's Shame were up to their usual tricks last night.
Scotland's Shame were up to their usual tricks last night.

Once again Rangers have been declared the moral victors in the ever-compliant Scottish media. Once again, they failed to win at Ibrox. Once again, their fans reminded us why they are Scotland’s Shame.

The Billy Boys, Derry’s Walls, The Sash, it was all loud and clear, and that was only based on the 20 minutes or so highlights I watched this morning.

I say “highlights” in the loosest possible sense, to describe what was a thoroughly turgid and uninspiring affair.

Hateful Songs are of No Surprise to Celtic Fans

In case we need reminding, given that the press decided this morning chose to make no mention of it, Rangers fans were under increased scrutiny last night.

After embarrassing themselves and their country last time out in Europe, the club was hit with a fine and a supporter ban, suspended for 2 years on condition there was no repeat offence.

There may not have been any offensive banners last night, though, as usual, there were plenty of offensive visages on show.

As my dad once said upon returning home from a trip to Snake Mountain for a derby. “There were ugly scenes at Ibrox today. No violence, just plenty of ugly scenes!”

Anyway, I hope the UEFA delegate was listening, particularly towards the end of the match, when the songbook seemed, almost, to become even more vile than usual.

UEFA demanded there be no repeat offence. Their own board also begged them not to repeat the offence, but the majority at Ibrox last night did so anyway.

There now needs to be immediate punitive action. It’s bad enough they get away with this overt bigotry and racism every week in Scotland, but UEFA, usually, holds its own events to a higher standard.

I also wonder what the supposed “soon to be new owners” of the club, some of whom were in attendance last night, thought of all this.

I’ve said it before, and I will keep saying it. Fascism and racism, are not good for business, especially for American investors, where they are even more sensitive about such things.

As we watch the worst elements of The Rangers support continue to sabotage the takeover in real-time, its hard not to laugh.

Celtic fans have always known what they were all about. Europe is now waking up to the ignorance and hate that has been tolerated for far too long in Scotland.

I just hope they carry through on their previous threat. There can be no place for this kind of hatred in modern society.

With the SFA seemingly incapable of ever growing a back bone and confronting this mob, it falls to UEFA to take action.

I also hope these “multi-millionaires” from across The Atlantic are seriously reconsidering their position, in light of this ongoing, petulant defiance of decency from The Rangers support.
