DAILY RECORD’S LATEST RANGERS TAKEOVER EXCLUSIVE IS AN ABSOLUTE NON-STORY

Another day, another desecration of journalism committed by the Daily Record.

I read this morning on the Daily Record’s website what purported to be an “Unmistakable Uncovering” of a key figure behind the much-vaunted yet embarrassingly protracted Rangers Takeover saga.

As usual, it took me about 30 seconds to discover it was nothing of the sort.

Rangers Takeover “Key Figure” Exclusive is a Story More than a Month Old

Watch the Latest ACSOM Bulletin.

Now, I get it. On slow news days, sometimes, we have to retread old ground looking for fresh angles on things we’ve already covered.

Afterall, this is why I seem to be writing almost daily updates on the continuous cavalcade of comedy that is The Rangers Takeover

However, the emphasis is on finding a fresh angle. The Daily Record, it seems, couldn’t even be bothered to do that.

So, what is there big exclusive: “Well, see that guy with the shaved head sat next to Andrew Cavenagh at Celtic Park last month. Erm, we’ve found out he used to play for Bolton, and he’s now at Leeds United as part of the backroom team.”

That’s it. That’s the full extent of the story. No new developments, no movement on the well-documented obstacles to the takeover which were covered by other news outlets earlier this week.

Nothing. Just a biography of former Bolton right-back Gretar Steinsson.

It may as well have just been ripped straight from his Wikipedia page.

On closer inspection, with the exception of a few phrases switched around here and there, is seems that exactly what the Record have done.

I’ll give them some credit; the Daily Record Sports Desk team have become masters in the art of “rewrite that just enough that we can’t get done for plagiarism.”

It’s embarrassing, I’d even go so far as to say it’s shameful. But it’s also exactly what we’ve come to expect from this shambling shell of newspaper.

Meanwhile in the real world, multiple sources suggest that there has been no movement on the stance of certain Rangers board members being reluctant to part with their shareholdings.

Their would-be American occupiers are growing increasingly impatient with this.

This is a deal on the brink of collapse. You know it, I know it, even Keith Jackson probably knows it by now.

As I predicted yesterday while disassembling The S*n’s latest disgrace of an article trying to tie Celtic to acts of violence in a country far, far away, the Scottish mainstream media are currently in full damage control mode.

The directive is, get good stories out about Rangers and/or bad stories about Celtic, whatever the cost.

Rangers are out of Europe, out of money and out of ideas.

Celtic have the chance today to put ourselves within 90 minutes of achieving yet another domestic treble.

Expect this nonsense from the Daily Record to continue, and get even more desperate in the days ahead.
