CHRIS SUTTON CELTIC CRITICISM WARRANTED, AS BOYD EMBARRASSES HIMSELF AGAIN

This probably goes without saying, but as a Celtic fan, I am simultaneously so glad we have someone like Chris Sutton on our TV screens and dismayed that we still have Kris Boyd on there too.

One is articulate and not afraid to criticize anyone. The other struggles to say anything negative about his former club.

Even when he does, it’s through gritted, albeit shiny, teeth.

Chris Sutton Calls Out Celtic Failings. He’s no Cheerleader

I read Chris Sutton’s comments about Celtic’s recent dip in form, and I have to say, I think he was spot on.

Meanwhile, Boyd is “raging” that anyone would suggest Rangers’ trip to Aberdeen is meaningless.

I actually agree with his point, albeit for an entirely different reason. Indeed, no chance to humiliate Rangers and utterly ruin their fans’ weekend is ever meaningless.

However, for Rangers, it is a meaningless game, and any manager or pundit with an ounce of common sense would see that their trip to Bilbao on Thursday night is of vital importance.

What happens if they beat Aberdeen?

Celtic win the league in a couple of weeks anyway. So, the game is, ultimately meaningless.

But no, common sense isn’t what Kris Boyd is about. Its about playing to the gallery.

He knows rationality and reason won't score points with such an aggressively ignorant set of fans.

A friend of mine once summed it up quite eloquently, I think.

He said: “Boyd is one of those guys, you can tell, it’s always just simmering under the surface.

“He’s always just one pint away from shouting “no surrender”.

Indeed, it seems the former Rangers striker just can’t help but revert to type. It must be really tiring, being so angry all the time.

Meanwhile Sutton calmly, but firmly, breaks down exactly what he thinks needs fixing at Celtic, and he does so with a healthy dose of good humor as well.

All the while, Boyd sits there, scowling. Like an enraged imbecile who has just wasted the last three hours trying to figure out how the child-proof cap works on his meds.

I often see them paired up in punditry debates. It’s as if TV and radio producers actually think Sutton is to Celtic what Boyd is to Rangers.

There is no comparison. One is an intelligent, informed pundit, who doesn’t hide his allegiance to Celtic, but also isn’t afraid to criticize.

The other is a monosyllabic Rangers cheerleading goon, who values “staunchness” above all else.

Watching Sutton and Boyd debate, is like watching a Bengal tiger play with a tiny, crippled rodent before devouring it whole.

Kris Boyd may tell Rangers fans what they think they want to hear, but ultimately, he is doing them more harm than good. Chris Sutton offers constructive, but firm criticism of Celtic, where warranted, and we are a better team for it.

The first Rangers died, and the second one continues to languish in mediocrity because the likes of Boyd and the various other “staunch stooges” in the media dare not break ranks and actually tell the truth.

Long may it continue. Such idiocy can only benefit Celtic.
