Can Kyogo be only the third Celtic striker in two decades to score over 32 in a season?

Kyogo Furuhashi bagged his 50th Celtic goal as he netted his 30th of the season at Tynecastle yesterday afternoon. But can he score another three in Celtic’s remaining five fixtures to become just the third Celtic player in two decades to hit 32+ in a campaign?

It didn’t take long for Kyogo to become a fans’ favourite at Celtic Park when he joined from J1 side Vissel Kobe in 2021, but that is no surprise when the forward is 50 goals deep with games to spare in only his second season.

Having only played 78 games for the club it really does beg the question; how many goals can he get in a Celtic jersey?

Celtic have a fantastic history of goal-scorers and if he sticks around long enough, the Japanese star can definitely start climbing that ladder.

Two more goals would see Kyogo skip another fan favourite in Moussa Dembele who left Glasgow after two seasons with 51 goals.

STAYING PUT

There is no doubt that the forward will have caught the eye of many clubs around the world, but Celtic will certainly be keen to hold on to him for another season or two if he is to keep his current goal return up.

Every so often a player comes along and just seems to fit the mould at the right time, I think we can definitely say that this is the case with Kyogo.

He is adored by the fans, and it appears from his usual full-time antics that the feeling is mutual.

The striker can often be seen showing off his dance moves and orchestrating the crowd into song after games.

This passion and love for the club, alongside his fantastic performances and goals, is the perfect recipe for the making of a club legend.

POSTECOGLOU’S STYLE

Ange Postecoglou has to take a lot of credit for the tremendous amount of goals that his side have scored in the last two years.

The way he has the squad drilled is at times unplayable and so devastating that it’s not surprising that his strikers are hitting such high numbers.

Celtic have currently scored 105 goals in the league, the first time a team has hit triple digits since Celtic’s 2016/17 treble-winning campaign, where Brendan Rodgers’ side netted 106. This is a feat that, unless something goes terribly wrong, Ange’s side will surpass.

107 years ago, Celtic managed to score a magnificent 116 league goals, a record that has stood ever since.

Can Furuhashi and Co. go one beyond that this season?

It is certainly not an easy task but one that this side are more than capable of.

On the subject of players to have scored over 32 goals for Celtic in a single season, only Henrik Larsson and Leigh Griffiths have managed that feat in the last two decades for the Hoops.
