Are Celtic stronger now than when Brendan Rodgers left?

Some of you will probably be calling for me to be sacked from the ACSOM team just for posing this question, and understandably so. This was never a question I thought I’d ever ask in my wildest dreams. But hear a guy out – Should Celtic fans be thanking Brendan Rodgers for leaving the club?

The shock of Brendan Rodgers’ untimely departure still stings for some. And I get it. It hurt.  But was the hurt we felt purely down to the timing of Brendan’s departure or was it also down to the fact that we knew just what we were losing?

I know I personally used anger to disguise my pain. But I wasn’t angry, I just knew how much I was going to miss him. He gave me some of the greatest days as a Celtic fan in his cut-short time at the club. I bought into his vision, into his ambition and, most of all, I bought into him as a man. Like a large number of the Celtic support, I disguised my hurt with hatred. Although I was never quite at the “he’s a rat” phase.

So, fellow Celtic fans, I ask you all to humour me for now as I drill down into the narrative and point out some facts that may convince you that Brendan Rodgers leaving, was the best thing that could have happened to our beloved club.

A MAN OF AMBITION

The rumours have been well spread over the years that Brendan left Celtic because a ceiling was put over his head by certain board members when it came to the club’s transfer policy. We only need to look at the John McGinn saga to realise that there is a fair bit of truth in this. Every single Celtic fan was furious at how the issue was handled, so surely Brendan was allowed to be as well?

None of us knows the real ins and outs, but I feel that had the board invested more in his vision as they appear to be now, then he possibly would have stayed put to complete the Treble Treble.

Dare I say it, he may even have been convinced to stay on for the ten.  But if that had been the case, then look at what we would have missed out on!

We can skip the Neil Lennon in the shower stuff, and that’s no harm to our faithful old captain. He did a cracking job getting us over that line when Brendan Rodgers ran to the Foxes, but in my humble opinion, our sights should have been set higher, especially after the structure Rodgers had put in place.

However, if Rodgers had not left when he did then we would never have had got to know Ange. I understand that some fans are still angry with him, but without Mr Postecoglou we would not have Kyogo, Jota, or CCV, and we might not be sitting here as world record-breaking treble winners.

EUROPEAN DREAMS

Rodgers wanted our club to be taken more seriously in Europe. He wanted more investment in the squad. He wanted more stability. He wanted to take Celtic to the next level. Show me one fan that didn’t want all that. Show me the fan who truly believes that Brendan’s not a fan as well. If you ask me, he sure is acting like one of us. And speaking out for us.

Again, if rumours are to be believed, the board are going to finally give him what he wants… What Celtic fans want and have wanted for years. Throw in the fact we made £8.8 million off him and got him back for free, it’s a no-brainer if you ask me. I feel soon enough we will all be singing his praises again while asking ourselves, Ange PostecogWHO?

So, I’ll ask one more time… Should we be thanking Brendan for leaving us?
