Liel Abada and Alexandro Bernabei Set for Celtic Exit Door

The transfer window has been closed for Celtic for over two months now, but that hasn’t stopped the rumours linking Celts with a move away.

We had previously spoken about the failed moves away for the likes of Benjamin Siegrist and Yuki Kobayashi, who have both featured extremely rarely for Celtic since signing in the 2022/23 season.

The pair could still be set for a move to the exit door with the club not looking to use either of them any time soon, but there are a few more players who could potentially be heading for the Americas over the next weeks.

Clubs in the MLS and South America have shown interest in Liel Abada and Alexandro Bernabei, with reports indicating today that a move away from Glasgow is advancing for both players.

Liel Abada
Liel Abada’s future at Celtic has been up in the air ever since the recent escalation of the situation with Israel and Palestine. The Israeli had been a key player for Celtic under Ange Postecoglou, but injuries occurring frequently meant that he could never break into the team under Brendan Rodgers.

His agent has been trying desperately to get him out of the tricky situation he finds himself in at Celtic, and despite previous links to Premier League clubs as well as the likes of Ajax when he was performing at his optimum for the Hoops, it looks like his next club will be Charlotte FC in the MLS.

A fee was agreed between the two clubs for a reported £8million, with the fee potentially rising to around £11m with some add-ons included in the deal.

Abada completed a medical for the move in the last 24 hours, and with the MLS transfer window remaining open until April, all that is left is the announcement of Abada’s move stateside.

Alexandro Bernabei
The second Celt that could be headed for the Americas is Alexandro Bernabei, who’s nightmare spell at Parkhead looks set to come to an end very soon.

Signed to provide quality competition for Greg Taylor in the summer of 2022, Bernabei has failed to make an impact under both Brendan Rodgers and Ange Postecoglou, and his future could lie in Brazil as Bernabei is reportedly already in Brazil to complete a move to SC Internacional.

It would be a loan move with no confirmation over a potential option-to-buy, and with the Brazilian deadline closing on March 7th, the race is on if Internacional wish to get this deal done quickly.

Mikey Johnston
Unfavoured by the Celtic support, the signing of Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Wien was the move that told Mikey Johnston that he had to leave Parkhead in January, and thus he sealed a move to West Bromwich Albion on loan.

The Republic of Ireland international has found a new lease of life at the Baggies, grabbing 3 goals in 7 appearances in the Championship as he aids their play-off push.

The aforementioned move for Liel Abada could prove to be a sliding doors moment as West Brom held an interest in acquiring the Israeli, but Abada’s MLS move could spark a permanent transfer for Mikey Johnston if he continues to impress down south.
